Canadian VIP Visit

Ken Dryden, a former Canadian MP and Minister for Social Development, visited CRIS accompanied by Claire Payne, Grants officer at Barrow Cadbury Trust.

Ken recently wrote a book called Becoming Canada and visited Europe in November 2011 to speak to experts, politicians and civil society groups about the Canadian experience of multiculturalism and how it differs from that in Europe.

Young Leaders’ Consultation

CRIS facilitated a consultation event on 24 November 2011 with young people to discuss how Birmingham City Council can address the issue of budget reduction for the year 2012-13.

Council staff accompanied by Mr Chris Khamis, Director of CSK Strategies, and Dr Fathi Elsadig Jamil, Director of CRIS, met with and listened to the views of a group of young leaders about how the council should make the required savings.

Supplementary Education

CRIS is running a new supplementary education school for children every Saturday from 10am – 1pm at our Northfield office.

The CRIS supplementary school teaches Arabic language, Islamic Studies and English for children from 6 – 16 years and is run by a qualified teacher.

CRIS Trustee receives an OBE

Fellow trustees, employees and volunteers of CRIS would like to offer their congratulations to Professor David Cox, a trustee of CRIS, as he received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list – 2009 for services to healthcare. Professor Cox is the Chairman of South West Birmingham Primary Care Trust.
